Are they really a drop shipper?

Is your Drop Ship Company Really a Drop shipper?

If you’re a regular on UK Dropshipper Guide, you’ll already know what a dropshipping is. If not, check back to our Dropshipper FAQ page.

We have absolutely no problem with people using Drop Ship companies, the right partnership can mean a long and very profitable relationship. However, we’ve noticed an increase in the number of companies that have appeared to look like or promote themselves as drop shippers.  These often show up as cheap looking web sites, or offers in forums, so it is reasonably easy to spot them and stay clear of them. Other times, it is a lot harder to work out the bad from the good.

Like any new and growing market, there will always be a small minority of people looking to make a fast buck on the back of the hype and uncertainty. If dropshipping is a phrase or a tool that people are searching for more information on, you can bet that there are people trying to figure out ways to leverage that traffic to make a quick killing. One example of this, is the huge number of sites offering Drop ship company directories or dropshipper lists for sale. This information is freely available on UK Dropshipper Guide Dropshipper List, there’s no need to pay for this information.

The other example, which could have a rather more damaging effect on your wallet or reputation is the company that says it is a dropshipper, when in fact they are merely middle men. Some times these companies are easy to spot, other times less so. It pays to look out for them, we’ve listed a guide below to help you.

  • If a dropshipper is not a distributor, manufacturer or wholesaler, they are middle men. This is fine as long as you know. If they are middle men that are adding a heap of value to you, then all is good in the land of dropship. Otherwise, you know that they are taking a cut of profits that could potentially be yours.
  • Does your dropshipper have a telephone number and postal address on their website. Often this information is overlooked, however it does suggest a level of legitimacy. Try phoning the number shown, do they answer the phone with a cheery “Hello, you’re speaking to Joe from Acme Dropship, how may I help” or could it be someone is sat at home with their lap top watching Richard & Judy.
  • One of the big drivers for people setting up their own drop ship companies is the fees they can generate. A number of drop shippers either charge monthly or have an annual fee. We believe this is one of the main reason there are dropship companies, that are not quite what they seem. Be careful of this. We’ve notice a lot of the more reputable drop shippers are now offering their joining fee back to new members once certain sales thresholds have been met. If you’re unsure challenge it.

So, all is not as it seems with drop ship companies. We advise you to err on the side of caution if you’re unsure. If you’d like a second opinion, feel free to email us at info@ukdropshippingguide.co.uk
